Live bait makes all the difference.
Mysterious deaths have occurred in Budapest and vampires are suspected. Connie Bence fits the victim profile perfectly so her slayer boss sends her to draw out the vampires responsible, except when the bait is taken, the vampires escape with her as a hostage. She's hurled into vampire society, where she must face her greatest fear—her undeniable attraction to the vampire overlord Rurik. After her husband's death, Connie thought her heart too broken to ever love again, but the lure of an immortal man is strong.
The body count keeps rising, the pressure is on, and the slayers want a stake through Rurik's heart. Is he guilty? Connie doesn't think so, but if not him, then who? If she doesn't find out soon, the people she cares about stand to become collateral damage.
The first heart stopping installment of Connie Bence's adventures.

Vampire Bait The Angler Book 1 edition by Annie Nicholas Romance eBooks Reviews
Loved this book and its characters. Thought it would be just your same old ,same old gorgeous vampire meets and takes gorgeous girl. And it was but I really enjoyed it!
Five, run rabbit run, stars.
Connie was lost. After her husband lost his battle with cancer she found herself lost in a bottle with no way out. Then she met Colby and learned of the existence of vampires. Now Connie's job is live bait. She works for Colby who is a slayer. He is hired to get rid of vampires who have committed some type of crime. Connie lures them in, her internal sadness is intoxicating to them, and Colby stakes them.
Connie finds herself in Budapest to lure in Rurik, a very well known strong vampire. She finds him but what she doesn't expect is for him to drug her or protect her. Connie is torn between how she is drawn to Rurik and her loyalties to her slayer group. Soon she finds herself engulfed in the vampire world and doing whatever she could to protect Rurik. She isn't really sure who she can trust but all she knows to be true is what is in her heart.
I loved Connie, no she is not a tough ball buster type heroine, but she is strong is spirit and in her beliefs. You also can't help but to love Rurik and his mysterious ways and then she learns of an elite set of vampire that scare even their own kind much less Connie. She may be a weak human but she as well as the others soon learn she is a very important character. If you love vampire books I strongly recommend this one.
I am an avid reader and love getting totally engrossed in a great book. This is one of those. Wonderfully written and completely compelling. I was intrigued immediately. The story line flows perfectly and did not lack for detail. Loved it so much I HAD to read the next one.
50 shades move over! I started reading Bait not realizing it would get quite that steamy but man I am thankful it did!
Bait by Annie Nicholas is a story about a girl who is used as bait (hence the name) to lure rogue vampires to their death. She has never had any reason not to believe her handler, Colby, until she finally met her target. Rurik was nothing like the other rogue vampires she met, he had class and dignity and actually spoke to her instead of at her. She was still going to follow orders, still lure him to his death, until he drugged her and snuck her out the side entrance (men). When they arrived at the plain steel door in the alley that was their destination, Rurik changed again. He swore to protect her, to not let her die, and that is when she started doubting Colby. When the private party was attacked and Rurik helped her escape she knew something was really wrong. Now “Rabbit” as Rurik so affectionately calls her, has to find the truth and pick sides in a battle far larger than any of the Vampire Slayers could possibly imagine. All of their worst nightmares are true and they toe the thin line between the Nosferatu and the vampires of today.
Annie Nicholas was able to write a book worth a $2000 ticket to Budhapest. Her imagery and descriptions of the country were enough to make me look up the trip for my honeymoon! The entire time I was reading it, I felt like I could turn around and touch the city and characters. Even those you only knew for a minute, Marie for instance, will always hold a place in your heart. Not to mention, Rurik! Christian Grey move over, this is my man of choice. All and all this book was nothing like I expected and that just made me like it even more. Now I just have to read the next book in the Angler series, Catch.
Connie is a vampire slayer, working as the bait. She leads them out so the other slayers can actually kill them. Rurik is the leader of the local vampire group. He meets Connie and takes her to a party with more powerful vampires. Her slayer friends attack the party. One of the older vampires want her to spy on Rurik and her slayers want her to bring him to them. While Rurik just wants her to help him find out who was after him. The characters are well written and the story is good.
This was a very good vampire book. The characters were credible, the sex hot, and the setting interesting. I've been to Budapest, and she describes it well. I'll read the next in the series as soon as I have time, since the first set up a follow-up adventure quite nicely. Fun read!
I really enjoyed this book. It sucked me right in (no pun intended!) from the start. The detailed descriptions of locations, emotions, etc. make you feel like you're right there. This was actually my first Vampire book... I will be reading more! This did no have a cliff hanger ending, which made me happy too! I do plan to get the 2nd soon. Love this author. Will look for more by her.
